FEMALE FOUNDED BUSINESS

HANNAH & MARIAN CHENG

New York City’s lauded dumpling shops, Mimi Cheng’s Dumplings, opened in 2014 by sisters Hannah and Marian Cheng to celebrate and to share their mom Mimi’s fresh Taiwanese cooking. It quickly became the beloved dumpling destination for locals and visitors alike. The dumplings are wrapped just the way Mimi makes them with wholesome ingredients, fresh vegetables, and sustainably raised meat. No preservatives or additives ever. The cult brand is now expanding to wholesale for foodservice and retail partners.

Meet the co-founders: Hannah worked at JP Morgan on the rates trading floor for almost a decade before becoming a restaurateur. She was on Zagat’s 30 under 30 list of culinary superstars in 2015 and on the ROAR (Restaurants Organizing Advocating Rebuilding) steering committee from 2020-2022.

Marian worked in luxury fashion at Escada, Dolce and Gabbana, and Burberry before jumping into the hospitality world. She was on Zagat’s 30 under 30 list of culinary superstars in 2015, Forbes 30 under 30 list – Culinary Creatives List in 2018, and selected for the James Beard x Cornell University’s “Advanced Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership” accelerator program in 2022.
